What does divergence do?
We provide assessment and support for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism.
Our approach focuses on helping you understand your situation first, rather than assuming a fixed pathway. This means we aim to ensure that any assessment, support or next step is appropriate for you, rather than automatically moving toward a particular outcome.
For some people, this may involve assessment and diagnosis. For others, it may involve understanding their experiences, accessing support, or exploring alternative options. In many cases, people use a combination of these approaches depending on what is most helpful to them at that point in time.
The focus is always on helping you make informed decisions about what to do next, based on a clear understanding of your situation rather than assumption.
This includes helping you understand your options, how different pathways work, and what the potential implications of those choices may be. The aim is not to direct you toward a particular route, but to support you in navigating what is available and deciding what feels appropriate for you.
Some people use divergence simply to better understand themselves and do not pursue assessment or ongoing support. This is a valid outcome, and you are free to use as much or as little of the system as feels helpful to you.
Who is this service for?
Our service is for individuals aged 6 years and over who are seeking assessment, understanding, or support relating to ADHD or Autism.
This includes people who:
· Are considering whether they may have ADHD or Autism
· Are looking for assessment or diagnosis
· Want to better understand their experiences
· Are unsure what their options are
Some people come to divergence with a clear idea of what they want to do next, while others are at a much earlier stage and are still trying to understand what their experiences may mean. Both are equally valid starting points.
Some aspects of our work are also relevant to families, partners, carers, professionals and anyone who wants to better understand ADHD.
Do I need a referral?
No — you can book directly with us without a referral.
This means you do not need to go through your GP or another service in order to access support or begin the assessment process.
We will need to contact your GP with your consent to give the best assessment that we can by accessing your Summary Care Record, which is a summary of your healthcare, but we will ask about this consent should we need it.
Is this an online or in-person service?
Clinical appointments are currently offered online and accessed via a secure weblink.
Community-based support may take place in person, online, or through digital platforms depending on the type of support being accessed.
This means that different parts of the service may be accessed in different ways, depending on what is most appropriate and practical for that type of support.
Can I contact you outside of appointments?
We welcome contact between appointments. Often there are questions that come up and they need to be answered long before the next planned appointment. Sometimes people need advice and guidance and we would encourage people to keep in contact with the service. We will always give advice about the most cost effective way of you getting the help that you need.
How do you protect my privacy?
Our clinic is regulated by the Care Quality Commission who have clear standards that any health and social care provider must meet. We use "Semble" as our records system and they are continually working to ensure that the highest standards of data security are maintained.
