What happens after I receive a diagnosis?
We will explain your results clearly and outline available options, including treatment and support.
This may include discussing medication, practical strategies, or other forms of support depending on your needs and preferences.
You are not required to proceed with any particular option, and you can take time to consider what feels appropriate for you.
You are not expected to make immediate decisions, and it is completely acceptable to take time to reflect on what feels appropriate for you before choosing how to proceed.
Do I have to continue with treatment?
No — treatment is optional.
Some people choose to pursue treatment following diagnosis, while others do not. The decision will depend on your individual situation, preferences and what you feel would be most helpful.
What happens if I am not diagnosed?
If you are not diagnosed, we will explain the findings clearly and talk through what this means.
In some cases, this may involve identifying alternative explanations for your experiences or highlighting other factors that may be relevant. This can still provide valuable insight into what you are experiencing and why.
Not receiving a diagnosis does not mean that your experiences are not valid. It also does not mean that support is not available.
There may still be helpful next steps, including:
· Accessing support that does not require a diagnosis
· Exploring different approaches to managing difficulties
· Considering whether further understanding or review is needed over time
It is not uncommon for people to come away from assessment without a diagnosis but with a clearer understanding of themselves and what may help.
For some people, this stage provides enough clarity to decide that further assessment or diagnosis is not needed, and this is also a valid outcome.
Will I receive recommendations?
Yes — recommendations will be provided based on your needs.
These are intended to help you understand what options may be helpful and how you might approach next steps.
Can I access support without a diagnosis?
Yes — in some cases, support may be available without a diagnosis.
Some people choose to focus on understanding and practical strategies rather than pursuing a diagnostic outcome.
We can't prescribe medicines without a diagnostic assessment, but we won't repeat assessment work where it has been done well before.
How do you protect my privacy?
Our clinic is regulated by the Care Quality Commission who have clear standards that any health and social care provider must meet. We use "Semble" as our records system and they are continually working to ensure that the highest standards of data security are maintained.
